Prof Shanaaz Mathews, Director of the Children’s Institute nominated to serve on The Lancet Commission
Prof Shanaaz Mathews, Director of the Children’s Institute was nominated to serve on The Lancet Commission on Gender-based Violence and Maltreatment of Young People. Both the problem of violence against women and young people is pervasive and interconnected - affecting large segments of the global population.
The commission was announced in January 2020 and seeks to create knowledge essential to counter the pandemic as it is one of the few persistent problems that affect such a large segment of the global population. The first working meeting was planned for the 18th and 19th March in London but due to COVID-19 global public health crisis the meeting was help virtually to develop the scope of work and research priorities to be addressed by the commission over the next 2 to 3 years.
