The Social Service Professions Act (No. 110 of 1978) regulates professional practice and establishes the South African Council for Social Service Professionals (SACSSP). This Act is outdated and will be replaced.
A new draft bill, the Social Service Professions Bill 2008, was published for comment in the Government Gazette in January 2008. But the process of developing the Bill was put on hold in 2010, pending the Department of Social Development finalising a policy that outlines the vision and intended impact of the legislation.
